Single Choice Voting
Each member picks exactly one option from a list, and the option with the most votes wins.
How it works
A proposal lists two or more options. Each token holder selects one option only, and their full voting weight goes to it. Voting runs for a fixed window. At the close, the DAO counts the weight behind each option. The option with the most weight wins, even if it falls short of a majority. Some DAOs add a quorum check or a minimum share for the winner before the result takes effect.
Use it when
- You have a few clearly different options and need one winner fast.
- Run a temperature check or poll before a formal proposal.
- Choose a single value from a short list, such as a fee tier or a date.
Watch out for
- Vote splitting: two similar options can divide support and let a less popular option win.
- With many options, the winner may have the support of only a small minority.
Example
Snapshot. Snapshot's default voting type is single choice, used since 2020 by thousands of DAOs for signaling votes where each wallet picks one option.
