Time-based Boost

Stakers earn a bigger share of rewards or votes the longer they stay, and lose it when they leave.

The Time-based Boost card: 4 ♥ of Incentive

How it works

A member stakes tokens in a contract. From that moment a multiplier starts to grow, for example from 1x to 3x over two months. Rewards and voting weight are paid in proportion to the stake times the multiplier. The member can withdraw at any time without a fee. Withdrawal resets the multiplier to its starting value, so the member gives up the boost they built. Patient members therefore collect more per token than members who come and go.

Use it when

  • You want to reward loyalty without locking anyone in by force.
  • Reduce the churn of stakers who chase the highest yield each week.
  • Give long-standing members more say in votes than new arrivals.

Watch out for

  • Withdrawing part of a stake can reset the whole boost, which feels like a hidden penalty.
  • Early stakers gain a lead that late joiners can never close.

Example

Ampleforth Geyser. Ampleforth's Geyser, launched in 2020, grew each deposit's reward multiplier from 1x to 3x over two months, and a withdrawn deposit lost it.
