NFT Drop
A way to hand out non-fungible tokens to a chosen or random set of people at a set moment.
How it works
The DAO decides who may receive an NFT: an allowlist of addresses, a raffle, or anyone who acts first. It publishes the rules and a claim window in advance. At the start of the window, eligible members connect a wallet and mint or claim their token. The contract checks eligibility and enforces limits per address. Unclaimed tokens are burned, kept in the treasury, or offered in a second round. The tokens then serve as membership passes, rewards, or proof of early support.
Use it when
- You want to reward early members or contributors with a visible, tradable token.
- Bootstrap a community around a shared object before the DAO has a treasury.
- Gate access to a space or a vote with a membership pass.
Watch out for
- Bots and fee bidding wars: first-come drops favor scripts and rich wallets over real members.
- Speculators flip the tokens at once, and the community you hoped for never forms.
Example
Bored Ape Yacht Club. Yuga Labs sold 10,000 Bored Ape NFTs in a public mint in April 2021, and the holder set later became the base of ApeCoin DAO.
